Rousillon, the area between Perpignan and the Spanish border, has flowing beaches, soaring mountains, sweeping vinyards and some of the handsomest landscapes in the whole of France. At one time one of the biggest contributors to the EU wine lake it has now got its act together and produces some excellent red and white wines based on the local grape varieties. A great favourite among painters such as Matisse and Picasso itstill maintains its charm and character.
