Bulgaria and Britain have reciprocal agreements for treating their respective visitors free of charge. Medicines, though, have to be paid for. We have used the medical services extensively over the years and can recommend both Bulgarian doctors and dentists. Hospitals, however, are pretty grim and crowded and nursing support leaves a lot to be desired.
For long term residents both free health services and fee-paying private healthcare are readily available. Pharmacies tend to be well stocked and are getting better but if you have specific requirements it is still best to bring them from home. Villages rarely have a pharmacy.
